 To walk the shores

Feet shuffled along the sand. The gritty particles collected on them so as the person walked he seemingly appeared to be wearing a pair of low rise gray socks if seen from a distance. However, when the next wave crashed majestically just off shore then trickled up to the young man's toes...it washed away the bits of sand leaving them renewed once more.

Elias had walked this same line of beach every day since the day he learned to walk. He wasn't sure what drew him here. Was it the pastel blue sky? Was it the aqua tinged tide? Perhaps, the light house looming a distance above him on the cliff side was what made this stroll so enlightening.

Nevertheless, he never missed a day. Rain or shine he was here. And due to the lack of illnesses that many people came upon in the colder months, he was still here traipsing the shoreline in the dead of winter. In all truth, Elias Sumner had never experienced sickness. He was most likely the healthiest person on the island.

Though his hearing was quite good, he never heard the faint padding of paws behind him. He couldn't however, not notice the fangs that suddenly sank into his calf. He jumped forward with a dog-like yelp. His cry of pain was followed by a very familiar laugh.

"Eudora! That hurt! Stop with the foolishness!" Elias stammered.

A white cat with a couple black patches on her face and hind-end stood there in the water. Her mouth curled into a satisfied grin. She was quite odd for a cat. She was lanky and smooth with a clear lack of a tail other than a short bob where one should have been.

"Aye, we love to tease. It's not like you felt it very long anyway." Eudora said all-knowingly.

Elias rolled his eyes and didn't look down as the small bite wound healed over in several seconds. The only evidence left were the two drips of blood from both fangs. Perhaps he could not blow a punch or do much to stand up against others. Yet, wounds would heal instantly. He felt pain, but with Elias...pain was temporary.

The cat pranced around the man as he walked. Her step was full of bounce and a big grin was still stretched upon her maw. He tried to ignore it, but after a few minutes he had had enough. He kicked her with his left leg. Eudora saw the foot coming.

The foot struck and the cat flew at least a foot or two in the air. Then it tumbled into the water and completely vanished. Elias did not think much of this.

Suddenly, Eudora was on his other side still prancing along.

"When do I know it's actually you?"
he grumbled.

There was no telling when the real Eudora was speaking with you or not. Her power of duplication enabled her to create self-images of herself spontaneously. There had been more than one occasion when he had stepped into her house to see about fifty white and black tailless cats roaming a single room. Even worse, the duplications were solid...not just an image. Yet, it only took grabbing, kicking, smacking, or stepping on one of the copies before it vanished into bits of glittering particles.

He had yet to hurt Eudora herself. She was pretty nifty at creating a double and popping up somewhere else. Some thought her gift was teleportation, but she technically if she appeared to come out of thin air...it was most likely a duplicate which could think, act, and be just like her in all ways.

"I like peace on my morning walks. Do you mind?"

The cat to his side shifted suddenly back into a human. (Proving the cat to his side was the real Eudora. Duplicates can't shift). She was a pale, spritey girl with short black hair and sparkling eyes.

"Fine, I'll stop." Eudora sighed heavily.

And she did, allowing him to walk ahead and she quieted up for some time and walked a few yards behind.

OO C: I hope this is open. ^^

~E r i k a~

For Erika, ocean was symbol of freedom. She admired the mighty water that gave in to no other natural force. Even more - it couldn't be commanded but so many was under it's control. Who knows how many people would be without food and work. Or how many would be alive, not swallowed by the depth of waters. But then again, humans wouldn't exist if there wouldn't be the water.
Yet, this freedom was a strange one.
The waters could turn in dangerous, wild beast that had no mercy for anyone. Sometimes, when the salty water touched her bare feet she felt them - the ones who had lost their breath to the ocean. The despair and pain was not strong enough to weaken her, just to make her sad. It always made her think of life and what she wanted or could reach in it. And in those moments she felt sure that she would never sail. This freedom simply made her too frightened. Or maybe any freedom was scary when one took closer look at it?

How ever it actually was, Erika liked to come here, at the shore, sit down in the wet sand and just watch the waves come and go. It could happen only when she had free time, though. And free time was a thing she always lacked. Her sister often shook head and said that Erika would grow old before she even knew what word "life" meant and she could only answer that helping her mother is what is most important. And wasn't it? Her mom had given her life, beautiful childhood, though, tainted with the memories of the illness, sister and everything else Erika loved. Young woman felt sure that she will have enough time to enjoy her life. Even now she had memories that she would never forget. Like this morning in the beach.

Small smile graced her pale lips and she pulled her knees closer to her chest, putting her chin on top of them. Today she was free, like the ocean. No work, no studies, nothing. Today she could do what she wanted. And she was thinking about sitting here for a hour or so more. The water was just too beautiful to be left like this.
And then noise reached her ears. She turned and looked at it's direction, just to see a young man and a cat. No, two cats? She narrowed her green eyes to see better. Both cats looked completely alike and she felt joy and mischief as well as some irritation coming from then. And then the man kicked one of the cats. Her eyes widened at the sudden display of anger but when she saw it disappear she became confused. What was going on there? She felt rather tempted to find it out but didn't want to bother the man. Or the woman... For the other cat had shifted to her human form now. Maybe the other was just an illusion? That was quite possible.

Now both of them were close enough for her to see the faces. The man was about her own age, just like the girl. His face seemed familiar in a way... Wasn't he the one that she always saw passing around this time when ever she came to beach? She had always wondered if it was just a strange coincidence or was he really coming here often. And sometimes she had wanted to say "hi" to him, or at least wave hand. But her unsureness had always stopped her.

In sudden moment of boldness, Erika tucked one of the black strands behind her ear and decided. This was her day. her day of freedom. When she could do things she usually wouldn't. And showing a bit of her friendly side wouldn't harm anyone, would it? So, she stood up and waved to the couple, smiling warmly.

OO C: Sorry for the crap.
Yes, she is a bit braver today but we all have our good days sometimes, don't we?

Elias saw the young woman sitting in the sand, but had not mentioned it. He had seen her before at a distance. Maybe the beach was a sanctuary for the girl as it was for him. Eudora was the one who spoke up, speaking the obvious.

"Someone is waving at us." Eudora said with excitement.

There was something about meeting someone new that always got Eudora riled up. She quite easily made friends and often or not...enemies. Some just could not handle her never-ending energy and happiness.

Elias kept his mild pace across the sands, but Eudora, bouncing gleefully like a ping-pong ball, rushed eagerily to meet the woman further up the shore.

"Hi, you enjoying this gorgeous morning as much as us?"
she asked with a massive grin.

Oh, that excitment! It came washing over her like stormy waves and she barely avoided swaying a bit. That girl's emotions were so strong that she couldn't help but smile. It was so rare that someone could feel such pure, deep happiness in these days. Of course, it was a bit of hard to handle it, but otherwise, it seemed to pull her own happiness out slightly. Maybe this was why she had went all so bold suddenly? No matter how it actually was, she did not regret it and started walking slowly closer to the pair.

It was harder to read the man's emotions. First of all, they weren't so obvious and second, the girl was so overhelmingly eager that almost all her attention had to be turned to her, just to not let her self loose the control. But she was not planning to poke her nose into his bussiness, anyway. And emotions was one of most personal things in world, that was one thing she was sure of.

When the girl spoke, Erika smiled. Sometimes she had wondered if she really was the only one who could see ocean's beauty in the winter, not only in summer when the beach was rather crowded. In those moments she felt like one of the rare ones that really had eyes. Not the optics that almost anyone held but the eyes that could see nature's beauty. It seemed that now she had found two other with eyes and it made her smile.

"Hello. Yes, I am really enjoying this beautiful morning. Each morning is beautiful but this feels special, don't you think? Maybe because I am at ocean."

There was nothing more fulfilling than a stranger willing to cooperate long enough with her in order to hold a decent conversation. More or less, Eudora was quite pleased. There was no turning back now.

"I don't come here too much. I was just recently employed in town so it means less free time. My friend comes here every morning though."

Elias grimaced slightly when he realized he had been brought up. Yet, the girls would not have been able to see his expression for he was facing the water rather than them. Naturally a bit shy, it was hard for him to come to terms with others. He was not very interested in speaking with the young woman. She may have been nice, but he wasn't sure what to say if spoken to. His motto was to ignore rather than face someone much to the dislike of Eudora who was completely opposite.

"I'm Eudora Pascale and he's my long-time friend, Elias Sumner." Eurdora said in a quick introduction.

Erika smiled and listened the girl speak. She seemed to be the one who liked to talk much and rarely hid something. But that was not bad way of living, really. If one bottled up emotions for too long, disaster could happen. She remembered last time she had lost her temper without any reason just because she always kept on bitting her tounge and keeping quiet. Valency and Catalina wasn't in their normal skins for three days after that. Maybe Eudora could teach her how to open up a little? Maybe... But for now they had just met and there was not big use of planning future. From personal experience, Erika could tell that Fate seemed to almost specially make everything different as it was planned.

"It is nice to meet you both. I am Erika Raiden," girl told smiling and then glanced at the water. "I come here rarely, too... Because my job and studies takes all time I have. I don't mind working... But it's so nice to have a day off of everything, to enjoy what you like the most."

OO C: Sorry that it's so short. Kind of museless today. :C

"I suppose all of us Tropaian's are fascinated by the grandeurs of the ocean. Even my dull friend. Sorry for his rude behavior, by the way." she pointed out lightly, but ending in a heavy sigh.

She gave her new friend Ericka, a smirk. Then, suddenly without any prior signs there were two of her standing in front of Ericka.

"The more the merrier."
one of the Eudora's stated.

Elias was more than aware that his long-time acquaintance was getting ready to pester him once more, this time perhaps to show off for Ericka. Then in a millisecond there were four of her.

The man grumbled and counted backwards from three before being tumbled to the ground. The four Eudora's tickled his sides and his bare feet. He wasn't enjoying the pestering, but his body went against him as he turned beet red and laughed until he was sure he was going to wet himself. All the while stammering, "Mercy! Mercy!"

Elias was unable to break away, but suddenly a flash of red and white went racing out from between the Eudora's. The dog raced further up the shore, running past Ericka then on a second thought, running back down the hill and taking up a seat beside her.

"Aye, she has lots of nerve." he muttered though he was quite accustomed to teasing and the worse of it wasn't from his friend.

His tongue lolled out briefly as he panted. He was a medium-sized dog; about the size of a small Golden Retriever and no larger. He was primarily white, but blanketed in a red-brown. His coat was glossy in the sunlight and smooth to the touch.

Elias, though quite unappeased at having to be in close proximity of Ericka, knew that his current spot was a refuge. Even pesky Eudora wouldn't dare potentially kick sand all over Ericka in hopes of chasing him down for another series of tickling.

Eudora spoke about ocean and Erika wanted to say that her friend was doing nothing wrong but as she opened mouth, the events started to happen too fast. In a flash, there was four girls and the man was tackled and tickled and the dark haired girl was stuck between want to laugh at the sight and wish to help him. So she giggles lightly and then wanted to say something to help Elias. But he was faster and escaped his friend's grasp and sat down next to her.

"there, there, have a mercy on him now, Eudora. You don't want him tickled to death, do you/" girl asked lightly to the other young woman, pretending to be serious and scowling playfully.

OO C: Sorry for the crap. Should I bring Valency or Catalina in to make some more fun? Erika is just too... nice to do much. Or I am too unused playing humans.... ><;;

"Aye, you make a good point." Eudora replied to Erika.

She caught her breath and then fell flat on her back about a foot from Erika. She put her hands beneath her head and closed her eyes. At least, one of the four of her did.

The illusionary clones shimmered in the morning sunlight before disappearing completely. Eudora turned her head and looked up the sandy hill. Elias was lying with his head between his paws.

"Fancy we haven't met you yet. Funny how such a small island can hide people. I lived here all my life. My friend has too. Does the same apply to you? I have heard of some that left and returned. I can't even comprehend leaving. This place...this all I've ever known."

She leaned away from the two of them and watched the powdery clouds as they drifted gently over them in sky.

There was no reason to leave a place that was so fulfilling, especially one filled with beauty.

ooc: Well, there is no reason to keep this one going on forever either. Maybe you could have an evil charrie go meet Slam in Scuro? :)
